We are pleased to have a guest review from Zhao Gu Gammage, one of our regular customers who is an avid reader. Zhao Gu is 14 years old and will be attending Cheltenham High School next year. She just finished reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, a new young adult novel that is receiving a lot of positive review attention (and which we have available at Open Book Bookstore).

Zhao Gu says:
Thomas beautifully crafts a story that shines a light upon the growing racial tensions of today. She tells the story of the Starr, a sixteen-year-old girl who witnesses police brutality and who decides to take a stand against injustice.

Many readers and reviewers have praised the book. Atlantic Monthly says: “The Hate U Give enters the ranks of great YA novels.”  The Guardian calls it an “outstanding debut.” Kirkus Review (a source trusted by libraries) says: “This story is necessary. This story is important.”

The book is recommended for readers 14 and up.
