The night’s emcee is actress Cynthia Nixon. President Bill Clinton will be on hand to present a lifetime achievement award to Scholastic Chairman, President and CEO Dick Robinson. Actress Anne Hathaway will present another Lifetime Achievement to Annie Proulx, whose short story became the hit film “Brokeback Mountain.”
We have special reason to celebrate because two local authors are up for awards. Carmen Maria Machado is a finalist for her story collection Her Body and Other Parties, and Erica Armstrong Dunbar is a non-fiction finalist for Never Caught: The Washingtons’ Relentless Pursuit of Their Runaway Slave, Ona Judge.

And by the way, you can meet Erica Armstrong Dunbar in person at our store at her reading on December 13th. DETAILS HERE. Carmen Maria Machado will also be visiting the store for an author event and an interview by novelist Stephanie Feldman (date to be announced).
